Alexa Connection with Dementia

A friend of ours is an actor, touring the country with a Broadway show for the next year. His mom, with dementia, is in a senior facility on West Coast and he was looking for ways to keep more connected between visits.

I suggested that he could use a device that has a permission based video capacity to link him to his mom for regular conversations.

For several hundred dollars, he bought and installed in her room, an Amazon Alexa Show:

The impact for both of them has been wonderful. He can have regular conversations that have both his image and voice - that help his mother recognize and interact with him. No one else can access her device and he can call her from his mobile phone anywhere.

I love simple solutions that can leverage new technology to solve a real time challenge. This connection, along with his trips to visit her, has added a continuing presence to their relationship. Tech helping with empathy and love over the miles.
